Dolores Hidalgo is an important spot to visit in Mexico. Although it is a tiny small town, it is important of being the Cradle of National Independence. The best time to visit will be September, because as the National Independence celebration is at the night of 15th of September, you will be able to join the festival both with domestic people and many tourists visiting. By joining those celebrations, you will also be able to watch the animations and videos regarding the indepence of Mexico against Spain. As you walk toward the main square from the bus terminal in Dolores Hidalgo, it's hard to imagine the impassioned frenzy that heated this Mexican village on September 15, 1810. Here, on the balcony of his home, the town's beloved priest, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, yelled "El Grito de Dolores," the Cryof Independence. It was a cry that changed the history of North America, and, indeed, the world.
There is not much to do in Dolores Hidalgo but be sure to visit the ‘Talavera & Azulejos’ art centers and shops during your visit. Azulejos are hand painted Spanish style tiles, known to grow in the 19th century in Mexico. Talavera is a Mexican pottery distinguished by milky white glaze. After the state of Puebla, Dolores Hidalgo is one of the most important centers for the hand painted art work. There are many shops and centers where you can visit and see how it is, but my advice to you that you should visit Mexhapati, at the entrance to the South of the town. It is a small family owned business and shop of this artwork. They have been running business since 1978 aproximately and stil growing and widening the range of products they have. It is a small, nica family shop whom will have a warm welcome to you.

There is not much of night life in Dolores Hidalgo. Once you get there, you can drive to San Miguel de Allende, where is also the second famous spot for national independence. Statistics show that, majority of the population in San Miguel consists of Canadians and Americans, mainly from California coast, living there. The central square in front of the main church is a nice place to sit and relax. You can chill down here, listening to Mariachi sang on the streets. In the afternoon you can have a minute walk to the Mamma Mia Restaurant down the street and have a Margarita. Mamma Mia is one of the most famous restaurant bar in San Miguel de Allende. There are many places to stay in around this little town, as it is a very famous tourist spot. In Mamma Mia you can spend the whole evening even the night at its bar or drop down to another place around. All places are a walk distance to each other. So you do not need to rent a car or look for public transport. There are many hippie markets and interesting Latin style shops where you can visit during the day. San Miguel de Allende is a must visited place in Central Mexico. Even a whole holiday can be spent there.

After San Miguel de Allende, you can drive to Queretaro, where is a bigger city. After Queretaro, with a 3 or 4 hour drive you will be in Mexico City. Other nice places to visit nearby are Morelia famous with its ice cream, Guanajuato famous with its art and hippy style population, Celaya famous with its caramel.
